이곳 키르키즈스탄에 와서 처음으로 아이들을 학교에 보내며 많은 염려를 하였는데 잘 적응을 해나가는 것 같아 다행이다. 한국에서 보냈던 일년 동안의 학교 생활이 많이 도움이 되는 것 같다. 이곳에서 재미있는 사실 한 가지는 개학일이 항상 9월 1일 이라는 사실이다. 대학생들을 포함하여 모든 학교들이 같은 날 개학을 하고, 또 개학일은 요일과는 무관하다는 사실이다. 그러므로 일요일에도 개학을 할 수 있다.

As soon as I came to Talas, I noticed that there were quite a few stray dogs. Later I found out that they were not really stray; they were just not kept at home and fed consistently. Naturally they scavenged around piles of trash. For some time I wondered why the people here didn't feed their own dogs. 

Neal's Version

We got a puppy about a month ago.  Her name is Bikky.  Our Dad picked it off the street.  It was cold and wet when we got it.  Next morning one of our neighbors brought another dog that looked like the first dog.  We named her Cookie.  They were sisters. 

이곳에 와서 적응이 가장 힘든 부분을 들자면 현지 음식이다. 이곳에서는 많은 채소와 과일들이 있음에도 불구하고 빵(“난”이라고 부름)과 고기를 주로 먹는다. (물론 경제적인 이유로 고기를 자주 먹을 수 없는 경우가 많이 있다.)
